Steam Extruded
Barley

ADVANTAGES:
1. Steam Extrusion increases digestibility in the small
intestine - from around 21% for whole/rolled barley to
over 90% for Steam Extruded Barley, reducing the risk factors
for laminitis, diarrhoea and colic.
2. Steam Extruded feeds/grains take longer to eat. Horses
eat slower, producing more saliva, which has a protective
effect against high stomach acid levels and the risk
of ulcers.
3. The increased digestibility means that less Stream
Extruded Barley is fed to meet energy requirements compared
to whole/rolled/steam flaked barley. This offers advantages
in terms of 'Weight Handicap' and cost.
4. Low moisture content increases the shelf life and
improves stable air quality.
5. The 'Feeding Rate' is a guide only and the amount selected
will vary according to age, state of preparation, work
load, body weight, temperature and the quality of available
hay, chaff, and/or pasture. Steam
Extruded Corn

ADVANTAGES:
1. Steam Extrusion increases digestibility in the small
intestine - from around 29% for whole/cracked corn to over
90% for Steam Extruded Corn, reducing the risk factors for
laminitis, diarrhoea and colic.
2. Steam Extruded feeds/grains take longer to eat. Horses
eat slower, producing more saliva, which has a protective
effect against high stomach acid levels and the risk of ulcers.
3. The increased digestibility means that less Stream Extruded
Corn is fed to meet energy requirements compared to whole/cracked
corn. This offers advantages in terms of 'Weight Handicap'
and cost.
4. Low moisture content increases the shelf life and reduces
dust and bacterial and grain fragments, improving air hygiene.
The combination of low moisture and Steam Extrusion reduces
or inactivates fungal contaminates and toxins including those
responsible for Mouldy Corn Disease.
The 'Feeding Rate' is a guide only and the amount selected
will vary according to age, state of preparation, work load,
body weight, temperature and the quality of available hay,
chaff, and/or pasture.
Steam
Extruded Lupins

ADVANTAGES:
1. Dry cooking processes such as dry-extrusion, pelleting
and micronization result in destruction of up to 50% of the
essential amino acids, including lysine, due to lack of moisture
during the cooking process. Due to the addition of steam
during cooking, steam-extrusion is a more gentle cooking
method and losses are negligible - less than 5%.
2. Steam Extrusion increases digestibility in the small
intestine - from around 45% for whole/cracked lupins to over
90% for Steam Extruded Lupins, reducing ammonia production
in the large intestine.
3. Increased digestibility in the small intestine improves
essential amino acid availability, critically important for
bone and muscle development.
4. Less Steam Extruded Lupins is needed to meet protein
requirements. One cup (250g) of whole or cracked replaced
with only ¾ (178g) cup of Steam Extruded Lupins.
5. Low moisture content increases the shelf life. The steam-extrusion
process inactivates fungal elements and toxins, producing
clean, low-dust feeds that assist in maintaining stable air
quality.
The 'Feeding Rate' is a guide only and the amount selected
will vary according to age, state of preparation, work load,
body weight, temperature and quality of hay, chaff, and/or
pasture.
