Please can I have a pony?

November 20th, 2011 – PLEASE…can I have a pony?

Each year, thousands of Australian children dream of owning their 'very own' pony - but for your average parent, hearing the words 'Please…can I have a pony?' can often bring more questions than answers.

But even more importantly, hundreds of young riders are injured each year in horse related accidents, where commonsense horse safety measures should have been implemented.

Two businesses located in the South East of NSW - Cherry Tree Equine and HorseWyse Magazine – have put their horsey heads together to create a unique, locally produced and published young horse lover's training DVD. 'Please…can I have a pony?' is a practical, young horse lover's guide to horse ownership. While this entertaining and comprehensive training DVD is primarily targeted towards young horse lovers aged 4-14, 'non-horsey' parents or those facing 'first horse ownership' will get just as much value from the DVD.

"Please…can I have a pony?"- which was filmed, edited and produced by Tura Beach based filmmaker Peter Staubli of Pejay Films - introduces young horse lovers to key concepts such as equine safety, basic horsemanship skills and general horse and pony care. Aimed at being both entertaining and informative the DVD covers a wide range of factors that young horse lovers (and their parents) need to consider before taking on the exciting responsibility of first horse ownership.

The DVD is presented by Cooma based equestrian Michelle O'Neill of Cherry Tree Equine. Having grown up around horses, Michelle knows full well just how much joy horses can bring to a child's life, as well as the dedication, time, money and knowledge involved in becoming a responsible horse person.

The real stars of the show are several of Michelle's students from the Cooma area and their horses, as they demonstrate just how to have lots of fun with your pony or horse, whilst being safe. The Eden and Pambula Pony Clubs were also very involved in the production of the DVD.

The DVD is available for purchase through the Horsewyse website www.horsewyse.com.au
